Claude Monet’s flighty and deft brushstrokes birthed not just a new movement in European art known as Impression - it suggested an orientation that challenged the Romantic understanding of reality: What if meaning, purpose, beauty arise not from a clearly defined subject with an aim, but rather from the abundance of light, color, and presence that characterizes the fabric of arising in every moment? So significant was this challenge that its reverberations manifested intensely in the work of French composers. And our brilliant friends at the Aspect Chamber Series have curated an evening exploring those reverberations - and they want our community there for a Night Out!
Like all Aspect evenings, we open with an illustrated lecture that gives context for the musical unfolding. The wordsmith will be intellectual, educator, and actor on the NYC theater scene, Samuel Adams. He’ll paint a picture to situate us in place and time the musical program.
That’ll start with Claude Debussy’s sublime Violin Sonata in G minor, performed by Grace Park on violin and Gilles Vonsattel on the keys - they’re two of the most brilliant young talents working in the city today.
Then they’ll be joined by the sensational Calidore String Quartet for Ernest Chausson’s astonishing masterwork, his Concerto for Violin, Piano and String Quartet, Op.21. It’s just as remarkable as it sounds.
As ever, tickets come with free wine and snacks, so show up on time!
Tickets to the feast of sound typically run $45, but we’ve got a stack for $20! Supplies are limited, though, so make your move!
And have an amazing Night Out!
