Historical context
Blue Tapestry is presented in stories and songs. What made these two albums so special when they were recorded simultaneously in 1971, to take the music world by storm. Joni Mitchell and Carole King took the music world from the psychedelic rock of Woodstock into an introspective, sensitive world of the singer-songwriter. At the same time their success put women center-stage as both performers and composers. These albums presented grown-up music for mothers, daughters and everyone else, and took the world by storm.
