About

Drew and Dan started Poore Astronomers in 2023 and have offered regular recitals of music from around the turn of the 17th Century; songs on romantic love as well as sacred music. In 2023, we presented Love's Pleadings, a program of hits of John Dowland, Philip Rosseter, Thomas Morley, and Thomas Ford. In Spring 2024, we presented Amor Mundi, selections from Dowland's Third Booke of Songs concerning love from its most human to its most astronomical or transcendent. On our recent tour in Fall 2024, we presented Devocion: Sacred English Lute Songs of John Dowland and Thomas Campion.

This Spring 2025, we are excited to offer our next program: Thomas Morley's First Booke of Ayres (1600) in its entirety to be performed on Renaissance lute!
