Flute Duo
About
Founded in 2023 at Queens College, The Melli Flute Duo –Marisa and Eduardo – is a New York-based ensemble passionate about reimagining classical flute repertoire through a multicultural lens. With roots in China and Mexico, the duo brings a cross-cultural perspective to their performances—bridging Baroque, Classical, and contemporary works while promoting music by women composers and composers of color.
Both alumni of Queens College’s Master’s program in Flute Performance, under the instruction of Judith Mendenhall and Michael Alampi, Marisa and Eduardo craft programs that blend traditional classical composers like Bach and Mozart with living voices like Valerie Coleman and Samuel Zyman. Their projects often weave in adaptations of traditional Chinese and Latin American melodies, reimagining the Western flute as a global instrument.
Music
We typically perform Baroque to contemporary works, emphasizing voices of underrepresented composers. Our programs juxtapose traditional Western repertoire with modern compositions, creating dialogues across musical traditions.
Composers we particularly enjoy performing and programming include:
Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Doppler, Kuhlau, Zymann, Coleman, Larson, and Clarke
We are always open to suggestions of new repertoire to accommodate all audiences!
