About
Chinese violinist Yue Sun is a multiple prize winner of Hong Kong International String Competition, Jiangxi Annual Violin Competition and Jiangxi Chamber Music Competition in China. As a soloist, she has performed recitals throughout America, Europe and Asia at famous venues (i.e. Shanghai Concert Hall, the Sanders Theater at Harvard). She has also been invited to attend and perform as part of numerous music festivals, such as Hotchkiss Chamber Music Festival, Music Festival of Banff Center, Schleswig Holstein Music Festival, and Kneisel Hall Chamber Music etc.. As an active orchestral violinist, she was selected as the concertmaster and assistant concertmaster for the numerous orchestras (i.e. the Youth Orchestra of the Americas, the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival Orchestra) and performed at prestigious venues (i.e. Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Konzerthaus Berlin and National Grand Theater of China) with renowned musicians such as Alan Gilbert, Christoph Eschenbach, David Geringas, Joshua Bell, James Gaffigan, Midori Goto, Ivan Fischer,, Semyon Bychkov, and Valery Gergiev etc..
Ms. Sun earned her Master’s degree in violin performance from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Ida Kavafian on full scholarship. Her Bachelor’s degrees in both psychology and violin performance are from Bard College with full scholarship. She has also worked with many artist-teachers including Arnold Steinhardt, Ani Kavafian, Luis Garcia-Renart, Weigang Li, Laurie Smuckler, Melvin Chen, Steve Tenenbom, Michael Tree, Peter Wiley, and others. As an active chamber musician, Ms. Sun has been coached by members of the Tokyo String Quartet, Shanghai String Quartet, and Emerson String Quartet etc.. She has collaborated chamber music with Paul Watkins, Jennifer Frautschi and other renowned musicians, and performed in “Music alive!” concert series which featured music by living composers and directed by Joan Tower, with whom she studied composition.
Ms. Sun is currently a candidate of Doctor of Music Arts at Stony Brook University with Hagai Shaham, Phillip Setzer Jennifer Frautschi, and Arnuaud Sussmann. In January 2017, her DVD album “Passion” for 8 premiers of Chinese solo violin works was released and published by Shanghai Audio and Video Publishing House, and soon, CD version of this album will be released globally by Skillman Music in New York.
