About

Hi Groupmusers! I’m a cellist originally from the Philly area, but I’ve recently been living part-time in Brussels, London, and Philly. I graduated from the Curtis Institute a few years ago and used to play in the Indianapolis Symphony, before becoming an Artist in Residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel.

It's essential for me that I build bridges between the wider world and the music that has filled my own personal world. I do this in many ways, whether it’s through innovative programming, such as the the pairing of arrangements with traditional repertoire that my chamber music collective ensemble132 curates; or integrating real-time story-telling into live performances through a project called Suite Talk; or playing and teaching at schools, homeless shelters, public libraries, and anywhere else that can bring music to people who might not get to experience it otherwise. I also have a special love for chamber music, which is how I first found out about Groupmuse!

Music

I play much of the standard repertoire for solo cello and cello with piano, as well as a whole bunch of chamber music (check out my group ensemble132 for some particularly interesting projects). I also have played and premiered a number of new works and original transcriptions. Here are just a few examples of works I have performed.

Bach Cello Suites (all)
Bartok Rhapsody No. 1
Beethoven Cello Sonatas
Brahms Cello Sonatas
Carter Cello Sonata
Chopin Cello Sonata
Debussy Cello Sonata in D minor
Janacek “Pohadka”
Kirchner “For Solo Cello”
Messiaen "Louange à l'Éternité de Jésus"
Prokofiev Cello Sonata
Schumann 5 Pieces in Folk Style
Schumann Fantasiesücke

Selected Premieres:
Eliza Brown: “Figure to Ground” for string trio
Richard Danielpour: "Shattered Vessel" for string quintet
Nick DiBerardino: "Oracle" for solo cello
Andrew Hsu: “Philtrum” for voice and cello
Ira Mowitz: Suite for Solo Cello
Rene Orth: “Stripped” for string quartet
