Historical context
This program is a little musical journey through some of my favorite flute pieces — from the grace of the Baroque era to the passion and brilliance of the Romantic period.
We’ll start with Vivaldi’s Sonata in F Major, full of warmth and light, followed by Bach’s Menuet and Badinerie, which always feels like pure joy to play — elegant, energetic, and full of life.
Then comes Borne’s Carmen Fantasy, a whirlwind of Spanish drama and virtuosity based on Bizet’s famous opera — it’s always a crowd favorite!
To finish, I’ll play Godard’s Suite de trois morceaux, a lyrical and emotional piece that shows the more romantic, singing side of the flute.
The whole program is about 45 minutes, and I love how it lets the flute tell so many different stories — from graceful dances to fiery passion.
