Book 7 of Claudio Monteverdi’s Madrigals was published 400 years ago. Think for a moment about all that’s changed in these four centuries and then think about all of the labor and love and life that’s gone into keeping these sacred works of inspired genius breathing for all of these subsequent generations upon generations. That alone is humbling, not to mention the inward enormity of the music itself.

ARTEK, one of the premier early music ensembles in the City, is carrying forth the torch into this auspicious century, and, big as their hearts are, they want us to join for a Night Out double header for Part 1 of Book 7 and Part 2 of Book 7.

An explosion of the ancient and the sacred — lutes, guitars, theorbos, harpsichords, a violone, viola da gambas, a bass violin, sopranos, mezzos, tenors, and more. All at happening at the beautiful Corpus Christi Church in Manhattan.
