The Boston classical scene lives by the school year -- when the summer season comes around, the big institutions leave town. And that creates a wonderful opportunity for the proliferation of music festivals that manifest the depth and diversity of our great city's music scene, and we here at Groupmuse seeks to celebrate that depth and diversity. And, thanks to our friends at the Aston Magna Music Festival, we've got our first chance of the season to do just that!
Almost 50 years running, the Aston Magna Music Festival is an institution in the Early Music world, and is America’s oldest annual summer festival devoted to music performed on period instruments. And on June 21st, they want us to come along for a Groupmuse Night Out!
We'll gather at Brandeis University's Slosberg Music Center for a performance featuring a glorious soprano and a nine-member ensemble performing on period instruments, spinning the tune tales of JS Bach (including his legendary 5th Brandenburg Concerto), Handel, and Telemann, complemented by a brand new work written for this ancient collection of instruments by Alex Burtzos.
Tickets are typically $40, but because this is Groupmuse, after all, we've got a stack for $20 -- but the supply is limited, so if you want to join, please do!
What's the music?

J.S. Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 5
“Ich habe genug,” Cantata No. 82
Handel: Two German Arias
Telemann Sonata for Violin, Bassoon and Continuo
Burtzos: The Hourglass Equation
