Among the many treasures of the Boston classical music scene, The Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra is a gem worthy of note and celebration. As one of only four cooperative orchestras in the country, they're a model of what a 21st century ensemble can look like: a dynamic group of empowered, top-flight musicians forging forward as one.
And, on May 12th, they're performing a show-stopper in the stunning and humbling First Baptist Church in Newton, which is, I'm pleased to report, a 1 minute walk from a T stop.
The program will feature Aaron Copland's Clarinet Concerto, led by the BSO's Tom Martin -- one of the world's great clarinetists. Mozart's 40th Symphony -- arguably his single most beloved work -- will serve as the centerpiece of the program and we'll end with a premier of a new work written for Pro Arte by Howie Frazin -- one of Boston's most celebrated living composers, and, incidentally, a crucial mentor and inspiration in the early days of Groupmuse.
The communal spirit of Groupmuse clearly resonates with Pro-Arte and their radical model, because they've given us a stack of $45 tickets for only $15 -- nearly 70% off! But the supply is limited, so if you want in, hop on it!
And have a great Night Out!
