Since the launch of Groupmuse DC, we've had three remarkably popular Nights Out at the Kennedy Center - we've brought out community out of the living room on a field trip of sorts to share an evening of world class music-making in the heart of DC's cultural life.
But, of course, the Kennedy Center is not the only bright light in this great city -- indeed, DC proliferates with cultural offerings, and part of what we try to do with Nights Out is to bring attention to the next generation of leaders in the arts community.
And so it's with great excitement that we announce a Night Out with the New Orchestra of Washington. Aptly abbreviated NOW, this revolutionary ensemble is the paragon of a modern symphony orchestra - lightweight, sustainable, and exploding with energy. NOW is managed by its own musicians - all of the key administrative roles are filled by members of the orchestra, gracefully bridging the gap between management and talent that so often causes such stubborn operational challenges.
Possessed of some of the finest talents in the City, NOW's integrated unity of purpose makes for a totally electric listening experience -- and the good news is they want Groupmuse to come along for their next concert!
On April 15th at 5pm, we'll gather in the glorious National Presbyterian Church for an evening of New World masterworks. The program will start with Antonín Dvořák's American String Quartet, performed by the Aeolus String Quartet - NOW's quartet-in-residence. It'll be followed by George Gershwin's Porgy and Bess Fantasy, performed by the orchestra, and the program will finish with Dvořák's titanic masterwork, The New World Symphony - an ode to where this country comes from and what it might become -- as inspiring today as it ever was.
Such a jam-packed evening of great art typically runs $30, but because this is Groupmuse and NOW is good people, you'll get yours for $15 -- a crazy deal for such magic. But supplies aren't infinite, so grab yours if you want in!
