As a mode of expression that is entirely unencumbered by the limits of language, art music is a uniquely powerful tool for fostering a profound appreciation for the richness and diversity of our species, regardless of where the listener is from. As in: while I might never speak Czech, I do feel like I have some sort of deep understanding of what Bohemia feels like because of how much Antonín Dvořák I listen to.
Our next Night Out is a celebration of that fact. On February 11th at 5pm, The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center - arguably the best chamber music society in the world - invites us into its Alice Tully Hall for an odyssey that explores the farther reaches of the European Classical Tradition.
We'll hear Joaquín Turina's first piano trio -- a masterpiece that so captures the intoxicating warmth of the Iberian atmosphere. We'll hear Edvard Grieg's Cello Sonata in A minor -- a work so infused with the cool whimsy of Grieg's Norwegian world. And the program will finish with Antonín Dvořák Quintet for string quartet and bass -- a lively romp that could only have come from Bohemia.
Tickets to the evening are on average more than $50, but because we're Groupmuse and CMS loves us, we've got a limited stack for only $25 - more than half off! But if history teaches us anything, it's that these will evaporate, so step lively!
And have a great Night Out!
