Massivemuses are yes - about celebrating the size and scope of the community we're buidling, living room by living room. And of course, they're about celebrating musical creation that's too large for a living room. But they're also about celebrating the many quirky and grand public spaces that so meaningfully define and deepen the cultural and physical landscape of the cities where we 'muse.
So when The Camron-Stanford House - a historic mansion-museum, perched right on the shore of Oakland's beloved Lake Merritt - reached out to host a picnic-blanket Massivemuse on their water-front lawn we couldn't say yes fast enough. But an outdoor performance for a large crowd presents certain challenges, because the sound won't carry itself. We knew we needed something big and booming.
Well, fortune's smile is upon us: The new assistant principal trombone player of the San Francisco Symphony Nick Platoff (i.e. one of the best trombone players in the country....) gleefully took up the challenge, assembling a quintet of the finest brass in town, with a terrific program of old and new.
So it'll be quite the afternoon! Show up at 12pm -- they'll be leading tours of the mansion until the music starts at 1pm. Enjoy the splendid Sunday sun for a long, luxurious late summer day -- we're welcome to stay until 4pm.
Enjoy it to the fullest, gang!
