Host

Come enjoy an evening of piano music from Daria Vasileva, exploring the spookier side of the classical piano repertoire to celebrate the season! Daria released her debut album, Scriabin: Elements, on the French label Aparté in June 2026, won Second Prize and the Special Scriabin Prize at the 2024 Scriabin International Piano Competition in Italy, and is a 2026 Gilmore Festival Fellow. We're so excited to hear her perform and get to know new friends in a cozy environment. We have limited seating, so you may be on the floor, or you can feel free to bring an extra folding chair if you have one. There will be a few drinks and light snacks to share while we listen to the music!

What's the music?

Pianist Daria Vasileva leads you through an hour of witches, drowned lovers, restless spirits, and demons who dance until dawn.

The program begins beneath the water with Chopin's Ballade, often linked to tales of nymphs who lure their lovers into the depths. From there come several of Medtner's Fairy Tales, two scenes from Yarullin's Tatar ballet Shurale (a forest demon and the dance of the shaitan and the fire witch), and a serenade from Mussorgsky's Songs and Dances of Death. The night ends with Scriabin's visionary Ninth Sonata, the "Black Mass." A few more surprises are waiting along the way!
