We warmly invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening of classical music featuring the return of Jeremy Eig on clarinet and Joy Mentzel on piano. This delightful duo has graced our home with their beautiful music so many times, and we are thrilled to welcome them back for another wonderful night of deep listening, connection, and community.
What's the music?
Brahms Sonata in G Major, Op. 78
Prokofiev sonata in D Major, Op. 94
Two sonatas explore beauty in uncertain times. Brahms’s G major Sonata, Op. 78, born from memories of his friendship with Clara Schumann and the loss of her son, weaves a beloved melody into music of extraordinary tenderness and nostalgia. Prokofiev’s D major Sonata, Op. 94, composed in the midst of World War II, responds to a different world with music that is luminous, playful, and full of life. In these arrangements for clarinet and piano, the two works take on new colors, bringing together Brahms’s warmth and longing with Prokofiev’s wit and clarity.
