Hosts

Join us at the Red Door in Emeryville, a beautiful new intimate venue and recording studio, as pianists Christopher Goodpasture and Christos Vayenas present their own unique styles of piano improvisation, and speak to the creative process behind them.

Christopher Goodpasture

Pianist Christopher Goodpasture has distinguished himself as an adventurous programmer and a refined interpreter of classical repertoire. A Steinway Young Artist, Christopher holds degrees from the Yale School of Music, The Juilliard School, and the Peabody Conservatory. He currently is the piano department at the Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Christos Vayenas

Impresario, pianist and curator Christos Vayenas' musical language draws inspiration from the Romantic and Symbolist eras of the past. A strong advocate of creative programming and cross-disciplinary collaboration, Christos is committed to transforming the way in which we create, perform and experience the arts. He is the Director of Curation at Oakland performance organization Musaics of the Bay, and the founder of the NYC-based arts organization The Autumn Salon.

Christos Vayenas - Solo Improvisation

Where does this music come from?

Both pianists have been greatly influenced by the solo concerts of Keith Jarrett- Chris Goodpasture is a classically trained pianist who has always maintained a parallel improvisational practice in his musical development, and will be sharing this publicly for the first time.

Christos Vayenas is a pianist who has developed his own compositional and improvisational language drawing from both western classical and other musical traditions of the world.
