Sixth Station Trio is a classically trained piano trio based here in San Francisco composed of three SF natives and graduates of the SF Conservatory. Sixth Station Trio debuted at San Francisco's historic Grace Cathedral in May of 2023 to a sold-out concert of 1000 people, featuring "atmospheric" music from the films of Japan's Studio Ghibli. (Think Oscar-winning Spirited Away (2001), the beloved My Neighbor Totoro (1988), and the visually stunning Howl's Moving Castle.) This catapulted them into already becoming one of the most successful trios of their generation, dedicated to blending their classical backgrounds with their passion for video game and pop music.
Katelyn Tan, Piano; Anju Goto, Violin; Federico Strand Ramirez, Cello
Program:
The Four Seasons (Tango pieces) - Astor Piazzolla
Madness - Joe Hisaishi; from the anime film Porco Rosso
Great Fairy Fountain - Koji Kondo
Gallant Challenge - Yu Peng Chen
Rapid as Wildfires - Yu Peng Chen
The last 3 pieces are written for the popular video game Genshin Impact! They are orchestral works written with classical technique by contemporary composers.
In addition to their Grace Cathedral performance, locally they have been guest artists at Old First Concerts, the Asian Art Museum and SF Japantown's annual NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival. In October of 2025, they toured to perform a sold-out concert at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC!
Sixth Station is a reference from the classic anime film Spirited Away. It is interpreted as "in-between" space representing personal growth and the journey being more important than the destination. Sixth Station Piano Trio exemplifies this in the wide variety of music they perform including traditional classical, film score, video game, contemporary classical, and pop.
