Happy New Year! We're delighted to bring you the award-winning duo of Scroggins & Rose on Saturday, January 17 at 7 p.m. in our Noe Valley home.
This unique, compelling evening of mandolin and violin/fiddle will be a treat for the ears! This is our second time hosting this duo!
Scroggins & Rose are a genre-blurring mandolin and violin duo known for their deep musical chemistry, expressive storytelling, and joyfully intimate performances. Blending classical nuance, folk traditions, bluegrass energy, and improvisation, their music feels at once refined and welcoming — perfectly suited to the close-listening magic of a Groupmuse concert.
The program on January 17th will center on music from their recent album "Speranza" — a collection born during the pandemic and shaped by themes of hope, resilience, and human connection. Speranza (Italian for “hope”) features original compositions alongside reimagined traditional melodies, weaving lyricism, rhythmic drive, and spontaneous interplay into a deeply personal musical conversation.
You're in for a treat! Combining two lifetimes of commitment to craft, technique, and stylistic integrity, Scroggins & Rose create imaginative contemporary roots music with the expression and detail of classical music, the ebullient drive of fiddle music, and the thrilling virtuosity of both traditions.
Nashville based mandolinist Tristan Scroggins, who frequently plays at the Grand Ole Opry and who was honored with a nomination for the International Bluegrass Music Association's Mandolin Player of the Year Award in 2021, was Grammy nominated for his work on The John Hartford Fiddle Tune Project, Vol. 1. Bay Area violinist Alisa Rose was Grammy nominated for her work with Quartet San Francisco, has served as an Ambassador of the State Department with the Real Vocal String Quartet, and teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.

Experience close connection, expressive sound, and music that lingers long after the final note!
Come one, come y'all! It'll be fun!

What's the music?
This concert will celebrate the release of Speranza, the third collection from Scroggins & Rose, and their first on Adhyâropa Records. Folks can pre-order the album here! Conceived during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, this album came out of the darkness of that time; but rather than gloom, hopefulness and light permeate every corner of the recording. Scroggins and Rose are masters of their instruments, and the interplay between the two showcases not merely their virtuosity but their deep musical sensitivity for one another.
Scroggins & Rose is composed of two GRAMMY nominated musicians. Nashville based mandolinist Tristan Scroggins has been honored with a nomination for the International Bluegrass Music Association's Mandolin Player of the Year Award in 2021 and frequently performs in prestigious halls such as the Ryman Auditorium and the Grand Ole Opry. Bay Area violinist Alisa Rose was GRAMMY nominated for her work with Quartet San Francisco, has served as an Ambassador of the State Department with the Real Vocal String Quartet, and teaches at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
