PROGRAM CHANGE!
This program features two major contrasting works of the twentieth century: Prokofiev's 6th Piano Sonata from his so-called "War Trilogy" and Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue. Each piece offers profound societal and national statements that contain grand capacities for instrumental storytelling. Each piece will be preceded by a short piece in the same key, creating a further dialogue of diverse musical styles.
Repertoire:
Bach: Prelude and Fugue in A major, WTC I
Prokofiev: Piano Sonata No. 6 in A major, Op. 82
Rachmaninoff: Prelude in B-flat major, Op. 23, No. 2
Gershwin: Rhapsody in Blue (arranged for solo piano by the composer)
