For our very first Groupmuse, we are excited to invite you to experience new music in our living room, featuring a world premiere by Ljova, as well as music and performances by Elle Gurevich, Ginevra Petrucci, Miranda Cuckson and Ljova.
What's the music?
Join us for a special evening featuring a world premiere work for the unique combination of the flauto d'amore and fadolín composed by Ljova, a rare performance of Ljova's virtuostic daredevil work for solo violin performed by Miranda Cuckson, as well works by the young composer/pianist/vocalist Elle Gurevich!
Program includes:
Ljova: Four Miniatures for flauto d'amore and fadolín (world premiere)
performed by Ginevra Petrucci and Ljova
H.I.F. von Biber: Passacaglia in G minor (from the Rosary Sonatas)
Ljova: Greenway
performed by Miranda Cuckson
Elle Gurevich: Windows
performed by Elle Gurevich and Ljova
other works to be announced from the stage
Where does this music come from?
Worlds collide:
The flauto d'amore - a favorite of baroque-era composers, largely forgotten for most of the 20th century -- shines again in a new world premiere work by Ljova, featuring the flauto d'amore in duet with the fadolín, a new instrument that Ljova has been championing.
Ljova's daredevil solo violin piece "Greenway", conceived as a companion piece to HIF Biber's "Passacagalia", was inspired by country fiddle music and Ljova's love of cycling around Manhattan by bike.
Works by pianist/composer Elle Gurevich highlight the young composer's fresh and unique voice, blending her classical training and jazz-infused harmonic language.
