🎶 Under the baton of Jeannette Sorrell, this concert places Mozart and Joseph Bologne (the Chevalier de Saint-Georges) in rich dialogue — sharing the stage, the air, and the spotlight in a program that thrills, surprises, and uplifts.
The program opens with Mozart’s Overture to La finta semplice — a youthful gem that already hints at his flair for drama and rhythmic vitality. Then we dive into the infectious charm of Bologne’s Violin Concerto in A major, Op. 5 No. 2, spotlighting a soloist who channels the refined wit and elegant lines of the Classical era. Interwoven are two striking vocal highlights: “Amour, devient moi propice” from Bologne’s only surviving opera L’Amant Anonyme (sung by soprano Sonya Headlam), and Mozart’s radiant “Parto, parto, ma tu, ben mio” from La clemenza di Tito, both bringing the human voice into the orchestral tapestry. The evening culminates with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 in G minor, K. 550 — a masterpiece of emotional urgency, rolling anxiety, and heroic drive.
✨ Thanks to Groupmuse’s Nights Out program, we have discounted tickets available for four dates October 15, 16, 18, 21 to see this magnificent program — making it easier than ever to hear this luminous conversation between Mozart and Bologne under Sorrell’s inspired direction.
