One of the truly outstanding local music institutions is the East Bay’s own Oakland Symphony and we are thrilled to be partnering up with them again this season. So get ready for an exhilarating evening of orchestral color, power, and imagination! 🎶✨

Internationally acclaimed pianist Sara Davis Buechner joins the orchestra for a program that brings together some of the most dazzling works of the 20th and 21st centuries — a night where rhythm, fire, and beauty converge.

The concert opens with Anna Clyne’s This Midnight Hour, a visceral and cinematic piece inspired by poetry of Jiménez and Baudelaire. Darkly mysterious and fiercely energetic, it plunges you into a sound world that feels both urgent and timeless. Next, Sara Davis Buechner takes the stage for Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G — a jazz-infused masterpiece that sparkles with wit and elegance in the outer movements while revealing heart-stopping tenderness in its luminous Adagio.

From there, the program unfolds into Adolphus Hailstork’s Symphony No. 1 — a radiant work blending the traditions of European symphonic form with the rhythms, spirit, and melodic vitality of African American musical heritage. Bold, lyrical, and deeply soulful, it’s a symphony that demands to be heard live.

And finally, the evening closes in a blaze of orchestral glory with Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite (1919) — a thrilling reimagining of Russian fairy tales, alive with shimmering colors, sweeping melodies, and a finale that will send you out of the hall on a wave of pure exhilaration.

Come early for a pre-concert talk about the program with John Kendall Bailey , which begins at 7:05pm.

While some tickets to this opening night are upwards of $90, **we’ve got a stack of tickets for only $20. Supplies, however, are limited, so make your move! And have an amazing Night Out!
