Tribeca New Music

Experience a breathtaking evening of innovation and genre-defying performance on Saturday, September 13 at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music when Tribeca New Music Festival presents Pathos Trio.

Led by Will Healy (piano, keyboards), Felix Reyes (percussion), and Peter White (percussion), Pathos Trio is known for electrifying performances and bold programming that redefines the percussion-piano ensemble. This concert also features special guests Jonathan Collazo and Katherine Fortunato on percussion.

The program includes a powerful lineup of bold new works, showcasing both prize-winning composer talent and adventurous voices from across contemporary music:

  • Geodes by Rafiq Bhatia – shimmering textures and shifting grooves evoke crystalline beauty.
  • Split by Phong Tran – a “deafening power ballad” merging heavy metal energy, synth-pop, and cinematic intensity.
  • Aqueous by Will Healy – luminous, flowing lines bring water’s fluid qualities to life through piano and percussion.
  • Core by Asher Lurie – the first-prize-winning composition in the Young Composer Competition, building from rhythmic interplay to an electrifying climax.
  • PITY by Andrew M. Rodriguez – motifs drift in and out like ghostly memories, exploring how past and present shape us.
  • Monolitos by Vicente Hansen Atria – towering electro-acoustic soundscapes infused with rock-inspired timbres.
  • Can’t Leave the Night by &&BADBADNOTGOOD** (arr. Matt Kilbort) – a sultry, atmospheric reimagining of the original track that brings the evening to a smoky, hypnotic close.

Through Groupmuse’s Nights Out program, we're delighted to offer discounted tickets for this adventurous and one-of-a-kind contemporary concert experience. But seats are limited, so reserve your discounted tickets now before they're gone.

· Geodes by Rafiq Bhatia - Geodes evokes the multifaceted beauty of crystal formations. The work explores shifting grooves and prismatic textures, creating a soundscape that continuously reveals new perspectives.

· Split by Phong Tran - Written as a showcase for the Pathos Trio, Split draws on the energy of heavy metal, synth-pop, and cinematic scoring. It is a virtuosic and visceral work, described by the composer as a ‘deafening power ballad.’

· Aqueous by Will Healy - As its title suggests, Aqueous is inspired by the fluid qualities of water. Luminous harmonies and flowing lines create a sense of movement and clarity, brought to life through piano and percussion.

· Core by Asher Lurie - Core builds from tightly interlocking rhythmic figures to an intense, driving climax. The piece conveys both raw physicality and lyricism, reflecting the composer’s interest in energy and structure.

· PITY by Andrew M. Rodriguez - PITY explores memory and time as active forces. Motifs appear, transform, and return in ghostlike fashion, suggesting the way past and present continuously shape our experience.

· Monolitos by Vicente Hansen Atria - In Monolitos, towering sonic structures emerge from guitar-inspired timbres and electronic textures. The work is a bold example of Hansen Atria’s electro-acoustic style, fusing rock aesthetics with concert music.

· Can’t Leave the Night by BADBADNOTGOOD, arr. Matt Kilbort - Originally released by Canadian group BADBADNOTGOOD, this arrangement reimagines their hypnotic track for Pathos Trio. Its atmospheric grooves and smoky harmonies close the program with nocturnal intensity.
