About the Artist
Watch Ruvim perform Brahms' Fantasies, Op. 116
Ruvim (Reuben) Ostrovsky was born in 1963 in Batumi, Georgia, and began playing the piano at age 5. From 1978 on, he received further education in Moscow. He concluded his formal education at the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, with teachers including Gleb Akselrod and Tigran Abramowitsch Alikhanow (chamber music). In 1995, he finished his Ph.D., and thereafter did research in musicology. Parallel to that, he pursues an active career as soloist and chamber musician as well as teaches: between 1990 and 2004 at the Glazunov Conservatory in Petrozavodsk (Karelia), since 2004 at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow; gives master classes; and also acts as jury member in international piano competitions.
