š» About Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim:
Based in New York City, South Korean violinist Katherine Kyu Hyeon Lim has been presented by acclaimed organizations such as Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, Chamber Music America, House of Yes, International Contemporary Ensemble, Joeās Pub, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Luzerne Music Center, Metropolis Ensemble, The Juilliard School, Prague Conservatory, and Music Technology at Mason Gross. Limās early performing career, starting at the age of 10, mainly took place in South Korea, Czech Republic, Germany, and the UK. Her debut album, Starling (2023), was picked album of the day on Bandcamp Daily, picked best new song on Paste Magazine, and premiered on Deepest Currents. Lim is co-founder of Impromptuo and Muzosynth Orchestra (formerly the Moving Orchestra), both of which focus on performing free-form improvisation. She was also founding member of the Unison Quartet, prize winners at the Bartók World Competition in 2021. Lim is current faculty member at Opus 118 Harlem School of Music and Noel Pointer Foundation, as well as former faculty member at Luzerne Music Center, New Amsterdam School and Kneisel Hall Adult Chamber Music Institute. She holds bachelorās and masterās degrees from The Juilliard School and will be graduating with a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts in a few months.
š©° About Melissa Almaguer:
Melissa Almaguer is a multidisciplinary artist from Mexico based in New York City, with tap dance as her primary instrument. Her work centers on improvisation and the use of tap dance to explore sound, movement, and interaction. As bandleader of several improvisation-driven groupsāincluding the Melissa Almaguer Trio and collectives like praesÄns and Angel of Water/Angel of Airāshe creates immersive, evolving performances. A recipient of The Next Jazz Legacy, Mutual Mentorship for Musicians, and the TIAM Collective Imagining cohort, Melissa approaches each project as a chance to listen, learn, and expand her practice through creative exchange.ā
In just a few years in NYC, she has performed at renowned venues such as Lincoln Center, The Joyce Theater, National Sawdust, Joeās Pub, Kaufman Music Center, and The Jazz Gallery. As the leader of the Melissa Almaguer Trio and collectives like praesÄns and Angel of Water/Angel of Air, she creates immersive environments where sound and movement become sacred rituals for personal and collective healing.
