Uniquely groundbreaking and exhilarating to watch and hear, the London Philharmonic Orchestra has been celebrated as one of the world’s great orchestras since Sir Thomas Beecham founded it in 1932. It’s mission is to mission to create unrivalled music experiences and forge human connections with its audiences and communities, both on and off the concert platform, which it accomplishes through live performances, online, and an extensive education and community programme.
With its primary home in London’s Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall, it is at the beating heart of London’s cultural life. The LPO also has residencies at venues across the UK, and tour internationally, including the US, with a commitment to fostering transatlantic cultural exchange.
The American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (AFLPO) was founded in September 1968 as the London Philharmonic Society (U.S.A.) Inc. In 2006, the name was changed to the American Friends of the London Philharmonic Orchestra. The AFLPO’s mission is to support the Orchestra’s international touring program, educational projects, and a wide array of musical activities in both London and the United States. Funds raised by the AFLPO help the Orchestra initiate and strengthen existing programs and maintain its high standard of musical excellence. The AFLPO is a 501(c)3 organization, dedicated to supporting the LPO’s education activities such as the Orchestra’s work with talented young American musicians and coaching of students from the Fiorello H. La Guardia High School for Music & Art and the Performing Arts. Each year, the AFLPO hosts events that aim to enlighten and educate, and this special evening will be no exception.
