A celebration of Czech and Slavic lyricism, Czech Mates explores folk-inflected melodies, romantic depth, and poetic stillness through five evocative works for cello and piano.

Janáček’s Pohádka opens the program with speech-like rhythms and elusive harmonies, unfolding a mysterious, dreamlike narrative.

Rachmaninoff’s Andante, from his Sonata in G minor, offers a lush, intimate lyricism that feels like a song without words.

Martinů’s Variations on a Slovak Theme reimagines a folk tune with rhythmic vitality and imaginative color.

Dvořák’s Silent Woods captures a moment of still reflection, steeped in nature and nostalgia.

The program closes with Dvořák’s Songs My Mother Taught Me, a tender melody of memory and love.
