You'll hear a viola de gamba duo play 16th century music and enjoy original poetry written by the Queen herself, accompanied by a biographical narrative that explores the Queen's fascinating life.

We are excited to share a program featuring the life of Mary Stuart, Queen of Scotland. Come hear 16th century music from the Queen's time, hear original poetry written by the Queen herself, and enjoy a biographical narrative that explores the life of this incredibly important historical figure.

Where does this music come from?

The composers featured are all approximate contemporaries of the Mary I. This includes William Young, Tobias Hume, and Monsieur Dubuisson. The poetry written by the Queen will be read in the original French with English translation provided. The biographical information on the Queen uses the most up-to-date scholarly sources with an academic bibliography available for those interested in learning more.
