Host
Carlo Fierens will be playing music composed and inspired by the legendary Italian violinist Niccolò Paganini. Paganini himself cherished the guitar and his original guitar music will be featured in this programme, alongside transcriptions of his virtuosic violin compositions, and music inspired by him. Notably, we will have the chance to hear music by romantic guitar prodigy Giulio Regondi, and a paganinian pastiche written by XX century Italian composer Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Also featured, the Red Fantasy by Kevin Callaghan, one of the most interesting guitarists and composers of today’s America, which in its sparkling brilliancy directly recalls the essence of Romantic music.
The harmonious sounds of the classical guitar will guide us through a concerts dense of various and contrasting emotions, much in the spirit of the musician who was hailed as “The Devil’s Violinist”!
