    One of the ironies of classical music is that though it’s sometimes thought to be of a by-gone era, antiquated and out-moded, it only actually exists in the present moment, when living artists of our world breath expression into centuries-old ideas. And so this whole mode of creation we call classical music stands as a testament to rebirth and regeneration.

    Music Before 1800 is a doula in that rebirthing process. It exists to rediscover and give new life to ancient masterworks that time has unjustly forgotten. And so for their next concert they present the Academy of Sacred Drama, led by violinist and visionary (or re-visionary) Jeremy Rhizor, who will resurrect the 17th-century oratorio by the great and neglected Antonio Gianettini, entitled The Victim of Love - a testament to the pain Mary and John feel as they say farewell to Jesus.

    It’s for three singers and 6 instrumentalists and it’ll be a powerful expression of ancient impulses too potent for time to forget.
