About

Pianist Sahun Sam Hong is known for his magnetic tone, deep physical connection to sound, and quietly powerful presence. A winner of the Vendome Prize at Verbier and prizewinner at the Beethoven Vienna and Naumburg Competitions, he performs solo and chamber music across the U.S. and Europe. Sam is currently a member of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center’s Bowers Program and appears frequently at Marlboro, Ravinia, and Music@Menlo. His playing has been praised for its “sheer beauty of tone” (Boston Musical Intelligencer) and “bold imagination” (New York Classical Review). Sam’s latest solo project, Glowing in Stillness, explores sound as architecture—rich, unforced, and fully felt. Based in NYC, he teaches at Queens College and continues to seek deeper ways of connecting through music. Sam is a Steinway Artist.

Music

I play classical music spanning from 12th-century Medieval chant to contemporary composers, with a strong focus on solo piano and chamber works. Alongside that, I create and perform my own arrangements - reimagining orchestral, jazz, and electronic music for small ensembles or solo piano. The music I choose often reflects an inner architecture I’m drawn to: works with emotional gravity, physical resonance, and a sense of spaciousness.
