About
I’m a pianist, harpsichordist, and conductor based in New York, and I love music most when it’s close enough to feel. I’ve performed on five continents, with orchestras including the Moravian Philharmonic and the Orchestra Lirica di Milano, spent seven seasons on Carnegie Hall’s Neighborhood Concert Series, and played for the Met Opera Guild’s gala honoring Plácido Domingo. I trained in Vienna with Paul Badura-Skoda and hold two master’s degrees from Mannes and a PhD from CUNY. I’m also a music historian: Fulbright, NEH, and AMS grants have taken me from Istanbul to the Gullah Geechee Sea Islands, so I can’t resist sharing a story or two about what you’re about to hear. Living room, school, synagogue, senior center, or festival stage, my goal is the same: that everyone leaves feeling the music belongs to them.
Music
My home base is keyboard music from Bach to Beethoven, Chopin, and Ravelw: Bach, Scarlatti, Couperin, Haydn, and Mozart, on piano or harpsichord. I love showing how the same piece transforms from quill to hammer. Vienna, where I studied with Badura-Skoda, gave me a lifelong devotion to Beethoven, Schubert, and the Romantics. I also bring programs you won’t hear elsewhere: Renaissance and early Baroque Italian chamber music (my Carnegie Hall series), Ottoman and Andalusian traditions from my Fulbright research, New York Jewish composers and Jewish women composers, and spirituals and gospel rooted in my years with the Grammy-winning Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir. I play jazz and the American Songbook, too. Every concert can be tailored: a solo recital, a themed lecture-recital with stories behind the music, or an evening with singers and instrumentalists.
