About
Chinese award-winning pianist Jialin Yao is praised for his “exquisite melody and profound understanding” and “supreme touch control” (The Boston Musical Intelligencer). A versatile artist, he is active as a soloist and chamber musician.
Jialin has performed at major festivals including the Verbier Festival, Aspen Music Festival, Gilmore Festival, PianoFest in the Hamptons, and Ravinia Festival, and in venues such as Alice Tully Hall at Lincoln Center, Jordan Hall, and Warsaw National Philharmonic Hall. As a soloist, he has appeared with orchestras including the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, and Málaga Philharmonic Orchestra, and has collaborated with artists such as Midori.
A graduate of The Juilliard School, where he studied with Sergei Babayan, Jialin is a prizewinner of numerous international competitions, including the Ferruccio Busoni International Piano Competition. He currently pursues an Artist Diploma at SMU Meadows School of Arts.
Music
I mainly play classical music. This repertoire comes from a long tradition of composers using music to explore human emotion, structure, and beauty. I’m drawn to classical music because it speaks directly and honestly, and in an intimate setting it feels especially immediate and alive.
