About

I am Clara Gaeun Kim, a 22 year-old cellist dedicated to shaping meaningful experiences through music. My journey has taken me from winning international competitions such as the Klein, Schadt, Paulo, and New York Young Artist Award to performing in major concert halls around the world. While I value the cello’s great traditions, I am equally drawn to innovation—collaborating with dancers, visual artists, and curating recital series in museums that open new ways of listening. I also bring music to those who cannot easily access concert halls, believing in the power of art to reach every listener. For me, music is not only performance but also dialogue: a chance to connect deeply, share stories, and contribute to the evolving landscape of classical music.

Music

I usually perform a wide range of repertoire, from the pillars of the cello tradition—Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Schumann—to 20th- and 21st-century works that challenge how we hear sound and emotion. Much of the music I play comes from the European classical tradition, but I also love exploring contemporary works written today, especially when they intersect with visual art, dance, or storytelling. I often seek music that balances lyricism and intensity, pieces that not only showcase the cello’s voice but also create space for dialogue with the audience. For me, the origin of the music is important, but even more so is how it speaks to the present moment and allows us to experience something timeless together.
