DESCRIPTION:Hosted by A Far Cry\nMusicians: \n\nWhat makes a fortress might
y: the walls that protect us\, or the communities that stand together with
in them? **A Far Cry** explores this question in **Mighty Fortress**\, a s
weeping musical celebration of resilience at **Old South Church on Saturda
y\, November 7 at 7:30 PM**\, with **discounted tickets available through
Groupmuse Nights Out**. Bringing together the self-directed chamber orches
tra\, Boston Children’s Chorus\, and four exceptional vocal soloists—*
*soprano Ariadne Greif\, mezzo-soprano Clare McNamara\, tenor Brian Gieble
r\, and bass Paul Max Tipton**—this ambitious collaboration fills the ch
urch’s soaring sanctuary with music that confronts the meaning of streng
th\, conviction\, and solidarity.\n\nThe program spans centuries and radic
ally different musical worlds. **inti figgis-vizueta**’s *Talamh* evokes
the landscapes of Ireland through a richly textured sonic portrait of hom
e\, while **J.S. Bach**’s *Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott* (A Mighty Fort
ress Is Our God) transforms Martin Luther’s famous hymn into a monumenta
l expression of faith. Then comes **Julius Eastman**’s *Gay Guerrilla*\,
a fiercely defiant work that reimagines the same hymn through a radically
different lens\, turning its message of resistance into a powerful musica
l statement. Together\, these works ask what it means to find refuge\, fig
ht for a point of view\, and draw strength from one another. With orchestr
a\, chorus\, and soloists united in one extraordinary performance\, Mighty
Fortress promises an evening of bold contrasts and collective power—all
in the remarkable setting of Old South Church. 🎻✨
