  the evening with a jazz trio led by **[Chris Williams](https://www.chrisw
 illiamssound.com/)**\, a powerful force on the trumpet who is a staple of 
 the New York free jazz community\, and has worked with renowned creators o
 f experimental art and music. His work explores the duality of ancestral t
 rauma and power existing in all Black Americans\, leading to the creation 
 of his pieces such as *I Ain’t Got No Spare* (2019) which interweaves ho
 memade electronics\, sound\, and projection.\n\nThen\, Philadelphia-based 
 bassist\, **[Rick Robinson](https://cuttime.com/about-2/mr-cuttime/)** wil
 l take the stage. Rick was invited into the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in 
 1989\, becoming its second African-American member. He resigned this posit
 ion 22 years later to emerge as a composer\, director and a leading voice 
 for sharing classical music with the broader American public. He is also a
  composer and will share his work ***City of Trees*** –- an homage to th
 e Dutch elm trees in the Detroit enclave of Highland Park where he grew up
