DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Fou G.\nMusicians: Maya Lorenzen and Concetta Abbate\
n\nFou Gallery cordially invites you to attend the Mixed Signals: Thanksgi
ving Violin Duo Concert. It will take place on November 28\, Sunday aftern
oon. Echoing the theme of Fou Gallery's current exhibition\, Cathleen Clar
k: Whatever Hour You Woke There Was a Door Shutting\, violinists Maya Lore
nzen and Concetta Abbate will adapt the nostalgic and mysterious temperame
nt of Kathleen Clark's work with a carefully selected program and melodiou
s timbre of violins\, distilling the meaning of time passed\, and the long
 evity of one’s memory.\n\nIn Cathleen Clarke's solo exhibition: W
hatever Hour You Woke There Was a Door Shutting\, Cathleen Clark captures
lively occasions in her paintings: weddings of her family's previous gener
ation\, the lake she played around in her childhood\, the ambiguous expres
sions of teenage friends\, etc. These vague memories of people and events
from her past are painted in a mysterious and haunting manner. At the same
time\, Maya Lorenzen and Concetta Abbate will perform from a wonderful cl
assical and contemporary music repertoire\, including Abbate's original mu
sic. We hope the combination of these paintings and music will help the au
dience explore the powerful juxtapositions of love and sorrow\, loneliness
and comfort\, struggle and relief — to experience the inner workings of
the human soul. Thus\, with sight and sound complementing each other\, Fo
u Gallery will provide a perfect place for the audience to wander around t
he banks of their river of memories.\n\nProgram (specific)\n\nJohann Sebas
 tian Bach (1685–1750)\nPartita No.2 in D minor\, BWV 1004: 3. Sarabande\
, 4. Gigue\n\nBach wrote six solo violin repertoires (BWV 1001-1006)\, inc
luding three sonatas (BWV1001\, BWV1003\, BWV1005) and three Partitas (BWV
 1002\, BWV1004\, BWV1006). "Partita NO.2 in D Minor'' is composed of five
 movements\, Allemanda\, Corrente\, Sarabanda\, Giga\, and Ciaccona\, frequ
ently listed by their French names: Allemande\, Courante\, Sarabande\, Gig
ue\, and Chaconne. In this concert\, Maya Lorenzen and Concetta Abbate wil
l play Sarabande and Gigue. The six solo violin sonatas contain complex ch
ords and superb counterpoint skills. They are one of Bach's masterpieces a
nd favorite repertoires played by violinists in ancient and modern times.\
 n\nJean-Marie Leclair (1697–1764)\nSonata For Two Violins Op.3 No.5\n\nJ
ean-Marie Leclair was a French Baroque violinist and composer. He is consi
dered to have founded the French violin school. In his works\, Leclair has
absorbed the manifestations and performance techniques of Italian violin
music\, combined with the elegant style of French music\, and created many
successful violin repertoires. His late works embodied the transition of
musical style from Baroque to Classicism. Leclair's violin works are not e
asy to perform and require high-performance skills. "Sonata For Two Violin
s Op.3'' consists of three movements: 1. Allegro ma poco 2. Gavotte. Andan
 te gracioso 3. Presto.\n\nJessie Montgomery (b.1981)\nRhapsody No. 1 for S
olo Violin \n\nJessie Montgomery is an acclaimed contemporary composer\, v
iolinist\, and educator. She is the recipient of the Leonard Bernstein Awa
rd from the ASCAP Foundation\, and her works are performed frequently arou
nd the world by leading musicians and ensembles. Her music interweaves cla
ssical music with elements of vernacular music\, improvisation\, language\
, and social justice\, placing her squarely as one of the most relevant in
terpreters of 21st-century American sound and experience. Rhapsody No. 1 f
or Violin Solo was written for Jessie Montgomery’s debut album. It premi
ered in New York in June 2014.\n\nOriginal music by Concetta Abbate：\nMa
