Host
I'm excited to host the string trio of James, Allie, and Shaleah for a lively and wide-ranging chamber music performance at my apartment in Glen Park.
For those who haven't been to a Groupmuse before, it's a small community gathering centered around a musical performance. Attendees come bearing whatever they want to eat, drink, or share and then socialize for an hour before taking a seat (often on the floor) to listen to the performance, which typically lasts about 30 minutes.
In the words of Groupmuse's founder: "It's not quite a concert and it's not quite a party."
This Groupmuse will take place in Glen Park in San Francisco, and is accessible via BART (3 minute walk) or MUNI (the J is a 5 minute walk). Snacks will be provided, but BYOB.
Donations to the musicians ($20 suggested) can be made in cash or through the Groupmuse app.
What's the music?
Ludwig van Beethoven: String Trio in G Major, op. 9, no. 1
Alexander Borodin: String Trio in G Minor - Variations on a Russian Song
John Mackey: Wrong Mountain Stomp
There's usually something electric about Beethoven, but to our ears, the wild card in his ambitious String Trio in G is the final movement - it sounds like Viennese fiddling! Alexander Borodin gives us a moment of repose painted in the dark colors of a musical Rembrandt, then we find ourselves on John Mackey's runaway train! Written for a summer music festival, Wrong Mountain Stomp tells the story of a young girl leaving home in the language of bluegrass.
